Christine D-M It's difficult to choose a favourite. And I may just change my mind tomorrow and choose a different poem altogether. But today, while Irish sessions are still pretty scarce in Halifax because of the Covid or the changing times, this one's my fav. Favorite track: An Ode to Tony MacMahon's Den.

Foxglove All the feels for this album, no words for it, except maybe... 'car'. Favorite track: No Other Words.

13clune13 The length and breadth and beauty of Dublin You Are and See No Evil are immense and find your soul. The music climbs out of his lyrical words as if to carry them off to other places they're meant to visit. Favorite track: Pushing The Pace.

about

Spring 2022 sees Stephen James Smith embark on his 3rd tour of the UK & Ireland. However this time he will be on the road with a band and visual artist (Steve Simpson) as he performs poetry from his debut album 'See No Evil', due for release on 1 April.

The 9-track album was recorded during lockdown in Co. Wexford, after Stephen found himself moving there from Dublin during the pandemic which presented the opportunity to work with Gavin Glass in Orphan Recording Studios. Stephen was awarded the Music Industry Stimulus Package under the Recording Stimulus fund to help with the making of the album. The album is being co-released by Nymphs & Thugs - the UK's leading spoken word record label - Stephen is the first Irish artist they are working with.

To celebrate the release of 'See No Evil', Stephen James Smith will release a brand new single 'I've Had Lovers' on 11th March.
Speaking about the album, Stephen James Smith said:

"This album is a culmination of years of work and a chance meeting. I was never really sure 'sound' I wanted to have underscore my poetry. I've so many influences from trad, folk, and hip-hop. And then I met Gareth, instantly we had a bond and he 'got' what I was trying to do. I'm a bit more restrained in my performance than I ordinarily would be on this album, but Gareth's music helps to bring the emotional intensity I would aim for as a solo performer, so the opportunity to collaborate on a longer-form project like this was just brilliant, I learned so much and I'm happy with what we created. In some ways, I care how this is received, what we've done means a lot to me, but in others, I couldn't care less, we did what we set out to do and now it's up to the album to find its way in the world."

The album is produced by Gareth Quinn Redmond and features a host of other artists such as; Conor O’Brien (Villagers), Jess Kav, Laura Quirke (Lemoncello), Cormac Begley, Camin Gilmore (Sun Collective / Crash Ensemble), Aidan Murphy, Conor Cunningham, and Albert Karch.
